By David Farkas, Leica Store  Miami

Today, Leica has announced the latest lens in the TL lineup, the APO-Macro-Elmart-TL 60mm f/2.8 ASPH. Not only does the new lens feature apochromatic correction, four aspheric elements and a compact size, but it is the first Leica macro in recent history that has a reproduction ratio of 1:1, rather than the more standard 1:2. At closest focus distance, the subject is a mere 3cm from the front of the lens. For those not on the metric system, that’s just a hair over an inch away. Leica promises top quality at all distances and apertures, beautiful bokeh, and a solid aluminum and glass made-in-Germany construction.

I’ve been using the T/TL lenses on the Leica SL (Typ 601) for 4K video a lot lately, especially the 11-23mm and the 35mm f/1.4. The APS-C coverage of the lenses matches up almost exactly with the Super35 size of the sensor when shooting 4K. For me, the results from using the TL lenses has been outstanding. I can’t wait to put this new macro into service on the SL for some upcoming projects.

For T (Typ 701) owners, the new lens will offer a macro and portrait lens equivalent to a 90mm f/2.8. Paired up with the stunning 23mm f/2 and 35mm f/1.4 lenses, T shooters can now have the classic Leica prime trio of 35, 50 and 90. Along with the three zooms, the TL lens lineup is looking very attractive. It will be interesting to see how the system continues to develop.

The 60mm APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL f/2.8 ASPH will be available starting next week for $2,995, in either black or silver anodized finishes. To place a pre-order, head on over to Leica StoreMiami, call at 305-921-4433, or email info@leicastoremiami.com.

Leica provided some sample images taken with the new lens mounted on the T (Typ 701). Check out the gallery below by clicking on the images.
