LEICA PREVIEWS NEW FLASH AND WIRELESS TRANSMITTER

At the WPPI Conference in Las Vegas, Leica has given us a sneak preview of a new flash and wireless transmitter. This would be Leica’s first time offering a system for wireless flash triggering that incorporates TTL and we are excited for more information to be made available at the official launch in April. From the limited information on hand now, it appears they will work with the SL (Typ 601) and M10, but I imagine at launch time a more comprehensive list of compatible cameras will be presented.

The new flash is called the SF 60 (implying a flash guide number of 60) and the new transmitter is the SF C1. Sitting in between the compact SF 40 and full-size SF 64 flash units in Leica’s lineup, the SF 60 should offer a great balance of flexibility and compact size. Personally I think this will be a great asset for SL shooters, given the versatility of that system. I can imagine wedding and event photographers having a few SF 60 units mounted ahead of time that they can control via the transmitter on their SL camera. Given Leica’s ever-growing lens and accessory lineup for the SL, the new flash and transmitter fit nicely into this professional system.
