I fondly remember the Tetenal 'Neofin Blue' film developer that was supplied in small glass ampules that had to be opened
by using a small saw that was supplied with the chemicals, to saw off the top
of the glass ampule. These glass ampules
have long been replaced by plastic ones, but they contain still the same
formula of developer.
Tetenal is also known for
other home developing chemicals and kits.
What it lesser known is the fact that Tetenal also supplied bulk
chemicals for film and paper to major photographic companies like Kodak and Ilford
for instance.
In September 2018, Tetenal
filed a petition to open insolvency proceedings. Up to now, business operations
have continued unrestricted thanks to the active commitment of employees and
the loyalty of regular customers. Besides a previously initiated investor
search process was continued. The company set this in motion more than a year
ago. Unfortunately an investor could not be found
In view of this a settlement
is now being initiated. This gives customers the opportunity to place their
last orders. Probably in April 2019 the location Norderstedt, Germany will be
closed.
The insolvency affects
about 100 employees. More than half of the employees are still working as part
of the production.
Employees of Tetenal have
joined together to form an initiative that works on a concept of how they will be
able to provide proven Tetenal products or develop new products in the future .
The foreign subsidiaries
in England, France and Poland are not directly affected by the bankruptcy.
How this will affect their
former clients like Kodak, Ilford etc. remains to be seen.
