It was not as wide as the Leica, but a bit taller. The folding viewfinder was roughly the same size as those on the early preproduction Leicas. But the 100mm f/2 Ernostar was quite massive. It had a substantially larger diameter than a 50mm Elmar on the Leica and it stuck out much further from the camera. As a matter of fact, the lens did not have an infinity stop. Instead the focusing mount allowed to move the lens back a lot further to make storing and transporting the camera less cumbersome. Then, to use the camera, the lens had to be extended to its regular working position. All in all it wasn't too bad. Working with the Ermanox that I used to have in my camera collection, handling was much better than with most camera of the time.LEICA Barnack Berek Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09055435560407011075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320126156594375642.post-67272272694986192902020-10-27T12:38:19.116-05:002020-10-27T12:38:19.116-05:00How does the size of the Ermanox compare to a Leic...How does the size of the Ermanox compare to a Leica?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320126156594375642.post-27435102651876407772020-10-27T12:37:53.890-05:002020-10-27T12:37:53.890-05:00You are correct, Effectively, that makes the lense...You are correct, Effectively, that makes the lenses on both the Leica and the Ermanox very slight telephoto lenses. But the differences are very minor. For the Leica that means a magnification of 1.15x and for the Ermanox 1.33x.LEICA Barnack Berek Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09055435560407011075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320126156594375642.post-16572113755792306572020-10-27T12:37:30.660-05:002020-10-27T12:37:30.660-05:00Isn't that rather vague? The focal length of a normal lens is close to the the diagonal of the film format. That's why the early Leicas came equipped with 50mm lenses and the Ermanox with a 100mm lens.LEICA Barnack Berek Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09055435560407011075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320126156594375642.post-35472200325828517072020-10-27T12:35:58.488-05:002020-10-27T12:35:58.488-05:00What does the expression "normal lens" r...What does the expression "normal lens" refer to?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320126156594375642.post-53670626742581083302020-10-27T12:34:04.729-05:002020-10-27T12:34:04.729-05:00What was the negative size of the Ermanox? What was the negative size of the Ermanox?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320126156594375642.post-5920370125949774102020-10-27T12:33:35.418-05:002020-10-27T12:33:35.418-05:00The camera was designed to use glass plates in sin...The camera was designed to use glass plates in single plate holders. Ermanox never made any accessories that allowed the use of roll film. However, I did have a Japanese made roll film holder for 127 film in my camera collection which fit the Ermanox.
