COLORFUL LEICA CAMERAS FOR A GOOD CAUSE

The children of two grade schools in Dortmund, Germany were allowed to let their creativity run wild.  They painted and decorated cardboard models  of the Leica M rangefinder cameras according to their own ideas.  The result: 140 small works of art that are currently displayed by Leica Camera AG at Leitz Park in Wetzlar.  In return for the colorful designs, Leica Camera has made two unique cameras in the design of the cardboard version available for charity.

The cameras, a Leica M (type 240) and a Leica ME were designed by the Munich artist Helmut Lutter, true to the creations by the third and fourth graders Nesrin and René.
The individual pieces will be auctioned in the coming weeks for a good cause. The auction proceeds will go 100 percent to benefit of the projects of the charitable Kinderlachen eV (children's laughter).

The 140 cardbord cameras of the Dortmund elementary school students are on display in the Erlebniswelt (Adventure World) of Leica Camera AG at Leitz Park Wetzlar until the end of January 2015. The opening hours are Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 186pm clock. Admission is free.

  1. As usual with anything about Leica, the article about this special edition at another site was accompanied by critiques from the Leica haters. One of these took the venom to new heights by saying:

Instead of making a handful of these and auctioning them for a large amount of money, why not make a couple thousand X2 of each design, mark them up like that eurotrash French Flag one, and sell a whole bunch?
... Somebody told me that hideous, paint-spattered X2 run from a year or so ago sold out.

  2. This despicable individual obviously has the word "charity" missing from his vocabulary.

  3. I am sure if the manufacturer of his Fujicanonikon had done something like this, this idiot would have fallen all over himself with glorious accolades.

  4. These Leica haters have no real arguments in favor of their cameras, so they have to revert to putting Leica down in order to make their own camera choices look better.

  7. I don't get it. If these people hate Leica so much, why do they read posts about Leicas in the first place?
