LEICA RECEIVES TWO TOP PRIZES FOR AWARD-WINNING DESIGN

Two Leica cameras received top prizes at this year’s IF Design Award, the Leica T and the Leica M Edition 60.

The IF Design award encompasses five disciplines: Product, Packaging, Communication, Interior Architecture and Professional Concept. Each of these categories include several sub-categories which are awarded with the IF Gold Award.  Of these, the Leica T received the award for “Product” in the category of Audio/Video.  The camera received this award because of its design, its clear lines, smooth surfaces and minimalist form.  Part of this decision was based on the fact that the camera is made from a single, solid block of aluminum.

In the same category the Leica M Edition 60 also received a design award.  Part of the decision was based on the fact that the camera, a special edition for the 60^th anniversary of the Leica M Messucher) rangefinder) camera, is based on the digital Leica M-P camera with a fast 35mm f/1.4 Summilux ASPH.  It is the first camera without a display, thus concentrating solely on the functions necessary to take photographs: Shutter speed, aperture, and ISO settings.

The design of both of these cameras is the result of cooperation with Audi Design in Germany.
