A LEICA FEW HAVE EVER SEEN

On my recent visit at Leica in Wetzlar, I was treated to a tour of the Leica Archives. Normally they are not open to the public, but Leica made an exception for me. I saw a wealth of cameras, accessories, literature, company records and more.

Many of the items I had never seen, like this particular model. For all the wishes for a totally weatherproof camera, this might be the answer.

It is a model of the famous Leica Model A or Model 1. It was made by a Leica afficionado in Japan, almost totally made of porcelain. Even the lens is collapsible. But it is very loose, and according to Tim Pullmann, our guide, is does not meet the specifications for tolerances of Leica.

As far s I know, there are no plans to market this version.A detailed report of the

Leica archives will follow soon.
