Leica says goodbye to its system cameras with image sensors in APS-C format. The L-mount was introduced with the Leica T (701) in 2014, which is also used by the Leica SL full-frame system. This was followed by the Leica CL and Leica TL2 models, which are now being phased out.
The official statement from Leica Camera AG on the end of the CL/TL2 system: “In the overall photo market, sales of compact and system cameras with smaller sensors have been declining in recent years. In comparison, the segment of cameras with larger sensors is developing particularly well and is showing increasing growth. This development has prompted Leica Camera AG to discontinue the CL/TL2 system and to adapt strategically to the changed market. The company will join forces and focus more on full-frame cameras.
Leica Camera AG is still convinced of the high-quality performance of the CL/TL2 system and is therefore offering its CL/TL2 system customers comprehensive support for a further six years from the date of purchase.”
