LEICA S3 TRADE-UP PROMOTION ANNOUNCED

By David Farkas, LeicaStore Miami

Today, Leica has rolled out a trade-in promotion for the newly released S3 medium format digitalcamera. From April 1, 2020 until October 31, 2020, Leica is offering additional credit for those looking to trade-in previous generations of S cameras for the Leica S3. For S2 and S (Typ 006) CCD-based S cameras, a credit of $2,000 will be applied towards purchase. For the previous generation S (Typ 007), Leica is offering a more generous $4,000.

Additionally, for non-Leica medium format digital cameras and backs with resolutions of 41 megapixels and higher, Leica is giving a $3,000 credit towards a new S3 purchase. And for Hasselblad trades, they’re throwing in a free S-Adapter-H valued at $1,995 to sweeten the deal.

Pricing Breakdown

Here’s how the promotion breaks down, first for Leica S then for non-Leica medium format digital:

Leica S                           Trade-Up Credit
Leica S2                    $2,000 + Trade-in value
Leica S (Typ 006)      $2,000 + Trade-in value
Leica S (Typ 007)      $4,000 + Trade-in value

Non-Leica Medium Format           Trade-Up Credit
Digital backs and Cameras (> 41 MP)                            $3,000
Hasselblad digital backs and Cameras (> 41 MP)          $3,000 + Free S-Adapter H

Note that the credit is in addition to standard trade-in valuation, which will be on a case-by-case basis. For those thinking of trading in multiple S bodies for a single S3, Leica will only be offering the additional credit on one camera per S3 purchase. Normal trade values will still apply though. To get the process started, you can fill out Leica Store Miami’s trade-in form online, call 305-921-4433, or send an email to info@leicastoremaimi.com.

THE GLOBE AT LEITZ PARK IN WETZLAR

By Heinz Richter

Driving from Wetzlar to the new Leica headquarters at Leitz Park, you first arrive at a large roundabout with a huge globe off center.  It was a present to the city of Wetzlar from the Leitz Park corporation and Andreas Kaufmann, chairman of the board of Leica Camera AG.

The globe and roundabout came at a price of half a million euros.  It has a weight of four metric tons and a diameter of 16.5 feet.  The globe is covered with over 1000 circular plates of different diameters, outlining the various continents.  In Europe, at the position of Germany or more precisely, Wetzlar, a red plate marks the home of Leica.

The design came largely from Karin Rehn-Kaufmann and it was implemented by the Frankfurt-based landscape architecture company Wewer.  The globe was built in Ludwigshafen by the firm of Kunstwerk Maudach.  The inside is hollow.  It was built along the same principles as the hulls of ships.  It arrived at Leitz Park in two halves which were welded together along the equator.

Even motorists were part of the considerations for the design of the globe.  It is sandblasted to a matte finish to prevent reflections of the sun that might blind the driver.

By now the globe has become another landmark besides the amazing architecture of the new Leica headquarters at Leitz Park in Wetzlar, which is once again the Mecca of all Leica enthusiasts.
