HYPERFOCAL SETTING WITH LEICA SL CAMERAS

By Heinz Richter

I recently wrote an article titled " Rangefinder Focusing in an Autofocus World". The article was very well received with many readers mentioning that they had been totally unaware of the advantages of hyperfocal settings.

In the same article I also mentioned that this feature had been all but lost with modern cameras and, especially with zoom lenses. I have never owned, leave alone used any of the Leica SL cameras, otherwise I would probably have known that, in spite of zoom lenses, this feature is actually alive and well for users of the SL cameras.

The Leica Store Miami just published a video by professional photographer and photo guide Colin McKinley from Red Dot Forum. He reveals a hidden feature in Leica SL cameras that will dramatically improve especially landscape photography. Using native L-mount lenses, this live DOF readout feature helps you master depth of field and ensure sharp focus from foreground to background.

This feature will especially appeal to Leica M camera users that are also interested in utilizing the Leica Sl.
