German photography
magazine PROFIFOTO reports of a new partnership
for Leica. They write:
Leica Camera AG and JMGO want to jointly develop LED
projectors as part of a new, strategic partnership. The first product is the
new JMGO O1 Pro.
Leica and JMGO have been working on the development
and optimization of the optical performance of Smart LED projectors since 2020
in order to improve the image quality and imaging performance in specific
application scenarios. After twelve months of development, JMGO has now
presented the O1 Pro - co-engineered with Leica. The product launch is to take
place in the international markets in the 2nd quarter of 2021.
The development of cameras and projectors has a lot in
common. The optical design, the light source and the image processing are among
the most important parameters for the imaging performance. The JMGO O1 Pro is
based on the technological expertise and synergies of the experienced optics
engineers and experts from both companies.
The LED projector is characterized by its ultra-short
throw capability, which, with the help of Leica engineers, has been reduced
from 0.25m (O1) to 0.21m (O1 Pro). This means that the O1 Pro can be placed
directly in front of the projection surface. The image quality in terms of
contrast improvement, color gamut, stray light reduction, dynamic range,
sharpness and noise reduction has also been improved. The JMGO O1 Pro was
produced under strict guidelines in accordance with the standards defined by
Leica in order to guarantee the high quality of the series products.
"We not only bring our expertise in optics and
quality to the collaboration, but also many years of experience in the
development of projectors," says Matthias Harsch, CEO of Leica Camera AG.
