Maximize your M-System glass with the Leica SL2 and a complimentary M-Adapter-L.

Leica Store Miami published an interesting article on using Leica M lenses on the Leica SL2.  Definitely food for thought.  They write:

With Leica now offering a free M-Adapter-L with the purchase of a new Leica SL2 or SL2-S, we have a lot of folks asking, “If I already own a digital M camera, why would I want to shoot M glass on an SL2?”

With almost magical sensor-based in-body image stabilization and a gorgeous 5.76 megapixel electronic viewfinder with a built-in diopter, we can think of a few situations where M lenses might be better mounted on an SL2 or SL2-S. Keep scrolling to see a few our favorite M lenses to pair with a Leica SL2 camera.

LOW LIGHT GLASS

Leica’s wide aperture lenses such as the legendary Noctilux boast gossamer-thin depth of field and luscious bokeh, but nailing focus with a rangefinder can be quite challenging at f/0.95. When using a fast-aperture lens on the SL2, simply line up your shot through the high res EVF, then tap the rear joystick to instantly zoom to a 100% view and quickly dial in accurate focus. And if you're in very low light situations, the SL2's IBIS helps you hold heavier M glass steady, allowing you to shoot at slower shutter speeds.

CLOSE-FOCUS LENSES

Gone are the days of accessory goggles. For M lenses with close-focus capabilities such as the vintage dual range 50mm Summicron-M or the recently-released 35mm APO-Summicron-M ASPH, the SL2’s built-in electronic viewfinder allows you to nail focus in any range. And with the addition of the Macro-Adapter-M or ELPRO 52, almost any M lens can be quickly converted to a capable macro solution.

WIDE ANGLE FOCAL LENGTHS

Modern digital M’s feature three sets of framelines, with the widest at 28mm. This means if you’re shooting anything 24mm or wider, you’ll either be playing a guessing game or using an external mechanical or electronic viewfinder. Cue the Leica SL2 yet again. See exactly what you’re going to get in the roomy 5.76 MP EyeRes EVF. We also love toggling on a grid and level gauge for even more precise composition.
