Keyvisual photokina

Every two years, the movers and shakers in the camera industry join the seasoned industry professionals at photokina. This event is the world’s largest for the photographic and imaging industries. Many photographic and imaging companies use photokina to introduce and showcase state-of-the-art imaging products, and it is expected that Leica will do so as well. The show dates are September 20-25, 2016 in Cologne, Germany.

More than 1,000 exhibitors from all over the world are expected to showcase their photo/imaging products and services during the 37th edition of photokina. Among the major players attending this year’s photokina will be:

Leica, DJI, Atomos, Arri, Hasselblad, Phase One, San Disk, Nikon, Olympus, Epson, Ricoh, Carl Zeiss, Manfrotto, DNP, Noritsu, Mitsubishi, Hahnemuehle, Canon, Profoto, Fujifilm, Cewe, HP, Sigma, Tamron, Rollei, Sony, Blackmagic, Polaroid, Haehnel, Bresser, Doerr, Ringfoto, Europafoto, Panasonic, Kodak and GoPro.

Besides the regular exhibit spaces, photokina offers a comprehensive program for professional photographers, the photo trade and amateurs seeking to advance their skills and upgrade their equipment. Stage events featuring the latest equipment will showcase action cameras as well as drones, multicopters, mobile solutions and the latest apps. Hall 6 will feature copters and an indoor obstacle challenge course. Hall 9.1 will present the latest solutions in “Social Media”, “Connectivity”, “Mobile Apps” and “Action Cams” - in addition the photokina action hall will showcase action cameras performing under “live” conditions.

Leica Camera AG is thinking big for the Photokina in Cologne this fall.  They are planning for their most extensive presence in their entire history.  Besides presenting themselves with their professional cameras and lenses, Leica will also impress with their position as “Offizieller Fotografie-Partner der photokina 2016” (Official Photography Partner of Photokina 2016).  This will include a large presentation in the Leica Gallerie in the over 20 thousand square foot Halle 1 (Hall 1) which will celebrate photography with several exhibitions.

Leica will put professional photography as well as professional users of their equipment and their work into focus.  At their newly designed booth professional photographers and visitors can learn about the wide range of professional tools and services for all photographic applications, all of which can be discussed in detail.  In addition to the medium-format system Leica S and the mirrorless Leica SL system, the classic rangefinder system Leica M and the world-renowned Leica lenses will all be presented.  Of course this will also include the award winning cine lenses for film and television production of the Leica subsidiary CW Sonderoptik and the broad professional camera range of Sinar Photography.

Leica is putting special emphasis as "Official Photography partner of photokina 2016" on the very extensive exhibition of “Masters of Photography.”  There will be a 15 picture series with more than 400 photographs of renowned Leica photographers like Alex Webb, Ara Güler, Bruce Gilden, Ellen von Unwerth, York Hovest, Jacob de Boer, Per-Anders Pettersson, Patrick Zachman, Jens Umbach, Roger Ballen, Helge Kirchberger, Christian Steinwender, Fred Mortagne, Kurt Hutton as well as the two winners of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2015, JH Engström and Wiktoria Wojciechowska .

In a separate exhibition at the gallery, Leica Camera AG will present the exhibition "Upcoming Masters" in collaboration with the German Society for Photography (DGPh) and the Photographic Industry Association (PIV).  This will present ten selected international universities with a total of 80 pictures of promising newcomers.

The Leica Gallery in Hall 1 is open to visitors on all exhibition days from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  A varied program of interviews and lectures by the photographers of the exhibition at the Leica Gallery will complement Leica’s presence at Photokina 2016.

According to Oliver Kaltner, CEO of Leica Camera AG, Leica will underline their longstanding expertise and position as an innovative provider of professional camera products and services.

As far as the introduction of new products goes, so far Leica is very much tight lipped as usual.  We just have to wait and see.
