Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of Leica Camera AG (second from left) was awarded the Golden Photokina Needle for his visionary commitment to his company and the photographic industry in general.

their company and also photokina a landmark and a renewed vision of the future
- this is precisely the definition of vision," said Cologne Mayor
Henriette Reker in her speech at the award ceremony. "I am sure that the
imaging industry will continue to meet high hopes and realize great projects in the
future."
Since the early 50s the
photokina needle is awarded to personalities from industry, science and
politics who have rendered outstanding services to the photokina in Cologne.
Since joining Leica in
2004 Dr. Andreas Kaufmann has led the traditional optics company back to
success and molded it with passion, clear vision and foresight to one of the
world's most recognized German brands. The sight of the essential, long-term
experience in development and production, high quality standards and continuous
improvement are the basis for today's success and of the company.
Its cultural claim
underpins the traditional company from Wetzlar this year as "Official
Photography partner photokina." In the nearly 2,000 square
foot Leica Gallery in Hall 1 they designed the impressive photography exhibition
"Masters of Photography" with images of renowned international Leica
photographers.
