A Leica S1 digital Camera from 1996 will be part of the future exhibition Foto + Film in the German Museum in Munich, the largest technology museum in the world.
Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, majority shareholder and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Leica Camera AG, and Dr. Volker Zimmer, Head of Department Digital Imaging and co-founder of the Leica S system, presented a Leica S1 to the Director General of the German Museum, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang M. Heckl and the curator of the exhibition Foto + Film, Dr. Cornelia Kemp, to supplement the collection of historical photo and film equipment.
From 2019 onwards, the large exhibition Foto + Film will present a comprehensive overview of the development of analogue recording technology and modern digital film and photographic equipment. It will be divided into four areas, which include recording and playback technology, photographic processing and cinematography. About 600 exhibits on an exhibition space of 6030 square meters (64906 square feet) will take visitors into the world of photo and film technology from 1839 to the present. The extraordinary variety of the over 100-year-old collection provides extensive insights into the fascinating cosmos of the photographic and film history. From historical rarities, such as a racing pigeon camera to modern digital cameras, a varied range of exhibits is offered.
The exhibition is currently being revised and updated as part of the modernization of the Deutsches Museum. The exhibition will be reopened by the end of 2019.

Very interesting that they are re-opening the photo camera collection at the Deutsches Museum. I visited the museum back in 1992, and was very disappointed that the exhibits were closed for renovation. Now, some 27 years later they are going to re-open it!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it possible that another renovation took place since then?
