Today, Leica Camera has
released its first firmware update for the recently released M-D (Typ 262)
digital rangefinder camera. Firmware version 1.0.0.4 adds a power-saving mode
that turns the camera off after 10 minutes without use or any buttons being touched.
This is quite handy if you forget to power off the camera before putting it
away (or if the camera turns on in your bag) as it will prevent the battery
from completely draining. You can download the firmware here: Leica M-D (Typ
262) Firmware 1.0.0.4.
To update the firmware in
your M-D, follow these steps:
Insert a fully charged
battery in your camera
Power off the camera
Insert an SD memory card
into a card reader in your computer
Copy the MD262-1004.FW
file from your computer onto the memory card
Insert the SD card into
the camera
Turn the camera on while
holding down the function button on the top plate
The update process will
begin, and can take up to 15 minutes. DO NOT turn off your camera, remove the
battery or the memory card during this process. The graphic below illustrations
what the viewfinder LED display and rear LED light will show:
