THIS IS WHERE THE LEITZ FAMILY LIVED

Photo: Wetzlarer Neue Zeitung

Once again visitors to Wetzlar will have the rare opportunity to tour Haus Friedwart, the former home of the Leitz family.  Tours will be available on Saturday, September 15 at 2pm and 4pm, and on Sunday, September 16 at 10:30am and 2 pm.

Haus Friedwart is a historical and architectural rarity. Situated on a large garden plot on the Kalsmunthang (Kalsmunt Hill), it was built between 1914 and 1917 for Ernst Leitz II, who made the decision in 1923 to manufacture the Leica, the first practical 35mm camera in history.

Registration for the one-and-a-half-hour guided tours is required at Tourist Information, Domplatz 8 in Wetzlar, or by phone (0 64 41) 99 77 55. The tours costs six euros.
